The Unspoken Heard x The DC Hip Hop History Project, Ep. 1

The DC Hip Hop Project, thanks to the good FWMJ and Rappers I Know, drops their first podcast which features an interview with Asheru and Blue Black of the Unspoken Heard. The two MCs talk about how they met, the origins of their names, 7 Heads Entertainment and all sorts of other factoids longtime fans will surely appreciate.

I was fortunate enough to meet and get to know both of these brothers, and spin their records (thanks Wes), while I was at the University of Virginia and their rhyme talents are only matched by their genuineness as people. Asheru provides the theme music for The Boondocks, by the way.

Below, the video for “Truly Unique/Elevator Music” from their Soon Come album, which is a gem. UVA, stand up.

VIDEO: Action Bronson & Statik Selektah “Not Enough Words”

The video for Action Bronson and Statik Selektah’s “Not Enough Words,” off their album Well Done, out today (11/22/11). Directed by Tom Gould and Alexander Richter.

Yeah, Action Bronson’s vocal tone is reminiscent of Ghostface Killah’s. Get over it. Dude’s music is official.

Jay-Z x The 2011 GQ Men of the Year

Jigga, along with Justin Timberlake, Jimmy Fallon and a couple of others, gets another Man of the Year nod from GQ Magazine (his first was in 2006). Interview by Alex Pappademas is up. And, of course, he and Beyonce’s child will be listening to Reasonable Doubt:

“There will be a lot of that,” he says. “And a lot of other records, all pivotal, important records. There’ll be Ready to Die, there’ll be Illmatic.”

VIDEO: Pac Div “Still Flexin’

Pac Div manages to snag cameos from NBA players Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Derrick Williams and Eric Gordon in the  So-Me directed video for “Still Flexin’.” It’s actually a commercial for Phiten Athletics, makers of wellness promoting necklaces and jewelry, or something like that. Hence, the clips “History of Bling” angle.

Still not enthused by Pac Div’s Asher Roth collab, though. Nevertheless, looking forward to The Div, set to drop November 8.

VIDEO: Ghostface Killah x Supreme London

Ghostface Killah was on hand for the opening of the new Supreme store in London. Not much actual performance footage but worth checking Tony Starks spit the opening bars to “Nutmeg” with the same vintage mic seen on the cover of Supreme Clientele. If you have not, I suggest you listen to said album. [Spotted at Hypebeast]

VIDEO: ?uestlove x And 1 Commercial

Finally found this commercial starring ?uestlove of the Roots that was as part of a Latrell Sprewell ad campaign. Spree was rolling with And 1 at the time and this predated his choking out Coach P.J. Carlesimo. The Roots’ drummer and defacto spokesman runs through the different looks he uses when performing, including one that channels the 6′ 5″, former NBA star guard.

I tell anyone who will listen that Spree’s two handed dunks were things of beauty. Any ballplayer will appreciate the athleticism necessary to go full speed toward the hoop, take off of one leg and cock the ball all the way back before throwing it down with authority. Damn shame the Milwaukee native basically negotiated his way out of the NBA.

Track list dropped this a.m., now the Roots’ lead single from their forthcoming new album undun—“Make My,” featuring BIG K.R.I.T. and produced Khari Mateen—leaks premieres. It’s a good Monday.
