Bill O’Reilly’s Hip-Hop Feuds

Bill O’Reilly is a donkey. That said, just about anyone going on The O’Reilly Factor is facing a losing battle. Mediaite looked back at eight of O’Reilly’s Hip-Hop targets from the past decade including Snoop Dogg and Ludacris.

The winners, as far as audacity, are by far Dame “You’re Not an Objective Mediator” Dash (who holds his own for the most part) and Cam’Ron “You mad?!?!” Giles (who brings all new levels of obnoxious comedy). Also, Salome Thomas-El lost me when he said “conversating,” which isn’t a word I’ve seen in any dictionary. Just saying.

Hip-Hop is very influential, even to the detriment of highly impressionable kids. But even the most unrighteous Hip-Hop doesn’t have anything on sound parenting. Below, Nas’ “Sly Fox” clip.

RIP Jam Master Jay (1965-2002)

Rest in peace to Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell. Seven years later and his untimely death still stings.

“Peter Piper” is incredible, “Jam Master Jay” is a Run-DMC classic (ask Nas). But my favorite song from the Hollis trio that features Jam Master Jay cutting and scratching (Bob James “Nautilus”) with finesse is “Beats to the Rhyme.” Makes Tougher Than Leather almost watchable.

Below, trailer for the 2 Turntables And A Microphone documentary about JMJ due out soon.

Method Man & Redman Review (Vibe.com)

“In a young man’s game, the middle-aged MCs have forged an album that reflects their belief that skills will always trump bells and whistles. Don’t mistake it for complacency—blame it on consistency. BO2 passes the smell test.”

Got to review Method Man and Redman’s Blackout! 2 for Vibe.com and I was impressed.

But hey, who reads reviews nowadays anyway?

On a related note, much has been said lately about Joe Budden going at Method Man over Vibe’s bracketology. Really, it’s the same shtick Jump Off is known for; talk slick over the Internet, act suprised people took his words out of context, then feign like he’ll be taking the high road.

Whether you think Method Man is that deal or, like Funkmaster Flex, think that he is overrated, when comparing the gamut of their respective careers, Budden has a LONG way to go [II] before he’ll be in Meth’s league.

Alright, back to our regularly scheduled programming…

Vibe Mag’s 50 Hottest Rap Blogs X Slang Rap Democracy

eminem-vibe

So my little space on the Internets got bigged up at the #43 slot in Vibe Magazine’s Top 50 Hottest Blogs. I had no idea I was even in contention so it was a pleasant, and humbling, surprise.

Needless to say, Top [insert any # here] lists are fodder for limitless amounts of speculation and deliberation over who shouldn’t have made the list, who should have been ranked higher on the list, who was wantonly left off the list, and on and on.

50centeminem_vibeFunny thing is that the more let’s say “unconventional” a list is—whether it’s be on purpose or because of naivety—the more controversy and debate it will spark. And that just may be the point; who is going to keep fussing about how much they agree on something?

Anyway, here is a compendium of the many rants and raves regarding the aforementioned list. I also hope this Vibe is bankrupt stuff doesn’t spell doom for the mag. Another print publication folding is just plain wackness. [Note: Not a single “source” in that ThisIs50 story, and it’s timing, means be weary.]

DOOM X Village Voice

Wack MCs, take me to your leader!

Wack MCs, take me to your leader!

Real nice MF DOOM DOOM feature in the Village Voice. Guess it was really him. Really, I just wanted an excuse to post Kausing Much Damage’s “Peachfuzz” clip below. Shout to Grand Puba on the vibes. Hmm, what did ever happen to Onyx The Birthstone Kid?

Also, here is the version of “Angeles” (pretty sure that’s how it’s spelled) that for some reason DOOM decided to add distracting ass drums to for the version (“Angelz”) on his Born Like This album that dropped 3/23. The album is damn good. But, I’ll have to get back to you on whether it’s touching my “all caps when you spell the name” fav: Madvillainy.

Charles Hamilton X Rap Radar (Video)

Any rapper that said anything derogatory about me or my “movement” or whatever I do; any journalist, any website, anyone is a small irrelevant piece of litter on this huge ass microcosm that I like to call my reality. And my reality tells me that my reality isn’t wrong.”—Charles Hamilton

Oh, it gets better. The hyperbole Mr. Hamilton drops in this vid courtesy of YN is on atomic levels. Kiss my natural pink ass? Really? He has the people on his side. Show me love, I show you love back. Yadda yadda yadda.

I got no qualms about saying I’m not convinced about this cat. The whole pink and Sonic thing reeks of gimmickry and the music hasn’t made me take notice beyond any of the marketing. And never mind the use of the term “huge ass microcosm.” Hey, “If I don’t like it I don’t like it, that don’t mean that I’m hatin’,” to quote Lonnie Rashid Lynn. [via Rap Radar]

Young Buck: Let’s Get Free

Can a brother get a budget?

Can a brother get a budget?

Young Buck is stuck. The Cashville, Ten-A-Key (ahem, Nashville, TN) native was given his walking papers from G-Unit last year, but the rub is that he is still signed to G-Unit Records.

Despite his tenuous predicament Buck is willing and wanting to fulfill his recording obligations. But according to the exiled rapper his attempts at reaching out to his former leader 50 Cent, and anyone else at G-Unit, have been essentially ignored.

Hey Joe

Flow Joe steez

Flow Joe steez

I was speaking to the homie Rob Markman the other day and discussing the merits of Fat Joe. We are both longtime fans of Joe Crack we went over some of the finer points of what has and hasn’t worked for the Bronx rapper of late after hearing his 9th album, J.O.S.E. 2, due in April. But no matter how you feel about Joseph Cartagena as an MC, he will always be good money with me since he did put Big Pun on.

While lately it seems like Joe gets more pub for everything but his music (beef with Remy, G-Unit and Pun’s wife Liza Rios, as well as my personal peeve; collabos with the trendy R&B crooner  of the moment), after a 16+ year career the big man’s got a chunky catalog. Here are a handful (at least the ones with videos: check Big Pun’s “Fire Water (Remix)” with Joe, Raekwon and Armageddon) of my favs that I keep at the ready when forced to defend his Hip-Hop merit.

“Watch the Sound” – Joe’s DITC comrade Diamond D flips Sister Nancy and threatens to steal Youth Corp checks while Grand Puba looks for the Love Boat and Joe goes “glock for glock and tech for tech.”

“S**t Is Real (Remix)” – DJ Premier on the remix. That’s all you need to know.

Big Pun f/ Fat Joe “Twinz (Deep Cover ’98)” – Yeah, Pun obliterated this ish but Joe did a commendable job riding shotgun.

Terror Squad “Lean Back” – Happier times and Scott Storch still had his mojo.

Fat Joe “300 Brolic” – from his last album The Elephant in the Room. Don’t snooze on it.

And one more…

LL Cool J f/ Keith Murray, Prodigy, Fat Joe & Foxy Brown “I Shot Ya (Remix)”
