Vibe Mag’s 50 Hottest Rap Blogs X Slang Rap Democracy

eminem-vibe

So my little space on the Internets got bigged up at the #43 slot in Vibe Magazine’s Top 50 Hottest Blogs. I had no idea I was even in contention so it was a pleasant, and humbling, surprise.

Needless to say, Top [insert any # here] lists are fodder for limitless amounts of speculation and deliberation over who shouldn’t have made the list, who should have been ranked higher on the list, who was wantonly left off the list, and on and on.

50centeminem_vibeFunny thing is that the more let’s say “unconventional” a list is—whether it’s be on purpose or because of naivety—the more controversy and debate it will spark. And that just may be the point; who is going to keep fussing about how much they agree on something?

Anyway, here is a compendium of the many rants and raves regarding the aforementioned list. I also hope this Vibe is bankrupt stuff doesn’t spell doom for the mag. Another print publication folding is just plain wackness. [Note: Not a single “source” in that ThisIs50 story, and it’s timing, means be weary.]

MPC2000 & SP1200 X Flash Drives

mpc2000flshd2

I need to cop these off g.p. Both the Akai’s MPC2000 and E-mu’s SP1200 are treasured pieces of studio equipment responsible for the beats behind many a classic Hip-Hop record. Lugging around these flash drives as opposed to the real deal should definitely be easier on your back, and make you the envy of beat heads when they spot them in your possession.

4GB of space for $39.95 (you can pre-order now and they ship in June) isn’t exactly a bargain, but you gotta figure you’re paying for the detail in these replicas, which are pretty much spot on.

Native Tongues X UNDRCRWN

tribeThe folks at UNDRCRWN hooked up some tees paying homage to those Native Tongues (though, I think it’s just Native Tongue) peeps that made that music you love. A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul and Prince Paul get some nice looks.  More tees after the vid. (Propers go to Cruziiie)

Busta Rhymes: Still Zone Coastin’

Up in the place, true indeed.

Up in the place, true indeed.

This new Busta Rhymes mixtape, I Bullshit You Not, is tough. It’s actually courtesy of Busta and DJ Scratch, who provides all the beats. (Spotted at Rap Radar & Nah Right)

While Scratch isn’t rocking with EPMD anymore, his production discography is chunky with the booming beats. A number of them have been for Bussa Bus and this mixtape lives up to the sum of its parts. Peep “Director’s Cut” and “Foreign Currency” if you think I’m bulls**ttin’.

Busta Rhymes f/ Raekwon “Death Wish”

However, Busta needs to put that damn new album out. If I recall correctly, his proper album, B.O.M.B. (Back On My B.S.) was supposed to drop in early ’08 (when Busta was still on Aftermath/Interscope and the album was still called Blessed).
Over the years I’ve gotten to interview Busta a number of times and he never fails to provide insightful answers that reveal his deep respect for and knowledge of Hip-Hop history. Getting the early co-sign, and his his name, from one Chuck D meant Busta was going places. And from the video below, and this is no disrespect to Charlie Brown and Dinco D, Busta was the clear star of L.O.N.S.

Coke (no Cola) X iPhone

How ill would it be if Clipse or Rick Ross (not Freeway Ricky Ross) made a song for this iSnort app? Don’t use drugs kids. [Spotted at Gawker]
